Having a slim, trim, toned body is a goal just about anyone would love to achieve, but even with diet and exercise, ridding your body of stubborn pockets of fatty tissue can be difficult, if not downright impossible. While some areas of the body respond very well to a combination of diet and exercise, other areas are less cooperative, retaining localized areas of fatty tissue that can resist all your best efforts at slimming down.
For most people, these exercise-resistant fatty deposits occur in the belly and flanks (a.k.a., “love handles), and as we get older, the fat in these areas can accumulate more quickly and be even more difficult to get rid of. If you’ve ever tried slimming down, you know how discouraging it can be to find all your best efforts aren’t enough to get rid of these areas of flabby, fatty tissue.
Laser Lipolysis to the Rescue
Body contouring can be a very effective way of getting rid of these fat deposits, but until recently, that meant undergoing invasive liposuction procedures involving anesthesia, incisions and a prolonged period of uncomfortable recovery (not to mention the risks that go hand-in-hand with invasive surgery). The good news is, thanks to advances in laser technology, invasive liposuction surgery can be avoided with a technique called SculpSure®, which relies on a method called laser lipolysis to break up and “melt away” fat so it can be removed by the body’s natural waste disposal processes.
Lipolysis refers to the way the body naturally breaks down fat during weight loss. In lipolysis, fat cells release triglycerides so they can be used for energy. While releasing these triglycerides can result in the fat cells shrinking, the cells are not destroyed and they can still “plump up” when we gain weight in the future.
In SculpSure® body contouring, laser energy is used to break down the walls of fat cells, fragmenting them so the cells and their contents can be removed by the body naturally over time. Unlike the body’s “natural” lipolysis process, SculpSure®’s FDA-approved laser lipolysis technique destroys cell walls so fat cells can be removed entirely – just like liposuction, but without surgery or incisions.
How It Works
SculpSure® uses a special applicator to direct laser energy through the skin, targeting the layers of tissue where fat cells are located. The laser energy is used to heat up the cells walls and contents, causing them to break down and liquefy. SculpSure®’s patented technology allows for precise delivery of laser energy for results that are very consistent, and the system also features different types of applicators for highly customized results. Most single treatments take less than a half hour to perform, and multiple areas can be treated in back-to-back sessions. Once the procedure is complete, there’s no downtime – you can resume your normal routine right away.
In clinical testing of SculpSure® body contouring, patients reported a satisfaction rate of more than 90 percent, with results becoming fully visible in about 6-12 weeks following the procedure once the body has successfully removed the cell material. And because the cells are removed entirely, they can’t “plump up” as a result of future weight gain.
