Defensive Carbine I is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to build confidence and proficiency in carbine employment. Balancing speed with precision and proven problem-solving techniques, Defensive Carbine I will allow students to test their abilities in this dynamic and intensive course. Defensive Carbine I serves as a prerequisite for Defensive Carbine II.

- Gear and equipment optimization
- Marksmanship fundamentals
- Zeroing
- Presentations
- Methods of engagement
- Engaging with speed and precision
- Post engagement considerations
- Multiple target engagements
- Tactical/admin reload
- Critical communication
- Speed/emergency reload
- Stoppage clearance and problem solving
- Pivoting and rapid target acquisition
- Target engagements on the move
- Final event incorporating all skills learned in the course.
Required Equipment:
- 400 rounds of ammunition minimum
- Reliable carbine, (NFA items are acceptable)
- 3 magazines or minimum
- Magazine pouches, (reloading from pockets is acceptable)
- Sling – One, two, or three-point
- Ear Protection (electronic preferred)/ Eye Protection
Recommended Equipment:
- Battle belt or chest rig, or purpose-built messenger bag/active shooter kit
- Gloves
- Firearm lubricant
- Dress how your lifestyle would dictate your likely dress for carbine employment.
Prerequisite: Have basic knowledge of the firearm
